Certainly worth a try. Many of the top players use towel grip with a combination of resin powder. Yes, the balance will shift a little on your racquet but that's OK. You may find you'll need to change your grip but that's OK. Get a few single grips to begin with and if they work for you it's best to buy the multi pack version which is usally a big roll of grip. This allows you to get slightly more grips out of one roll and saves a little money in the long run.

I would recommend you use the resin powder with the grip to give you that extra stick to the grip.

You may also find that the towel grip build the grip size too much. If that's the case, removing the original leather grip will help whilst at the same time this will change the balance again.

The first grip i ever used was the strong grip by Yonex. One of my favourite grips and I used this on my nanospeed 300. Would a grip like this suit a Voltric 70? 

 

Also, a use a slazenger head light super flexible racket. I wanted to overlay the old standard grip that was on it with a towel grip. Would the towel grip be alright to put on this kind of racket?

I think you can put what ever grip you want on what ever racket. It depends on the grip you like. All Paul was saying was how to achive the right thickness. I you put the towel grip on and find it too thick, then perhaps try taking the orginal grip off and then put the towel grip on.

 

There is no "what grip goes with what", use what you like. Finding the right grip for you may take some time, so if you can, try and experiment a bit.

 

I use Pro's Pro over wraps which are as good (if not better in my opinion) as Yonex version but a lot cheaper. It depends on where you can buy grips from. It's worth using a grip you know you can get, as there is no point finding you ideal grip but then struggle to get hold of it. That's one reason to rule out E-Bay (I used a nice Wilson over wrap but it's no longer on there).

Peter, I use the Pro's Pro Ultratacky overgrip too!

 

I found that, for me personally, I like a grip that is quite "spongy" so it gives when I squeeze it. I like the Karakal Super PU grips, but my hands are very ssweaty and I tend to ruin those grips too quickly. I got through towel grip too quickly too, and prefer the feel of Pu/overgrips more than towel (although towelling is lovely :D ). So, my solution was to go with these overgrips. It turns out, that if I double layer the overgrip (so it is twice its normal thickness), but do this twice (so it is 4 times the thickness) I get the grip thickness I like, its nice and spongy (which I like), it tends to absorb my sweat quite well AND they are extremely cheap so I can replace them when I need to (I think they work mout as roughly 40 pence each or so – I only have to replace the "outer layer", not the "inner layer" of grip).

 

Took me a while to realise I liked this though! I tried the PU and towel grips for a while too, and finally found something that works for me (financially) given how often i like to change my grip!

My favourite grip at the moment is Yonex tacky grip. It's not available in UK until September.

I don't sweat very much and therefore I'm more interested in a good sticky grip rather than dry. The tacky is the best sticky grip I've found so far.

The other grip worthy of mention is Victors Fishbone grip. Excellent sticky pu grip.

I've tested Karakal and virtually their full range. All are good grips.

As we continue to read on this blog, personal preferences always win through because we can't all like the same things. Therefore you need to test a lot to find what's right for you. By all means listen to advice, however, always remember the advice is based on someone else's preferences.

I've tried the towelling stuff and just don't like it.

Supa grap is my goto grip, but I have kids so there's never a shortage of Johnsons baby powder in my house and it soaks up everything from sweat to rashes.

I change my grip when it looks dirty so I reckon it's about once a month, all things considered it's still pretty cheap.

Towelling is certainly a difficult grip to like. It seems that the alternatives these days are many and varied compared to years ago when all there was to offer was towelling or some variant on Tournagrip.

As I said previously, many players who use towelling also use a resin powder to provide that extra stick. If you haven't tried towelling with this you could be missing out.

Test as many grips as you can. Thankfully, they're not too expensive. The difficult part is knowing where to find them.

I put the towel grip on my very light slazenger and i loved it. The towel grip made the racket feel so light. The thickness is much better on my wrist, as i sprained a while ago. A thicker grip seems to be better for me. I look forward to putting the towel grip on my Voltric 70. Laugh
