What grip/overgrip do you recommend/use? I've been using Tournagrip, but that doesn't last very long. When I was a squash player, I used the Karakel grips, but I don't know if that's too thick for badminton.

The only grip I trust is Yonex Hi Soft Grap. I tend to get blisters so the softness really helps and I think they look pretty cool ;)

I've just started using Yonex Super Grap, can't comment on longevity as yet, but good comfort and excellent grip from it. They're only about £3 a pack, and you get 3 overgrips for that. Worth a go.

I like the Grap too but I've found something even better. So, now I am using Yonex Tacky grip which should be available in September/October in UK. It's a little thicker than Grap but way more tacky, hence the name.

I tested this grip earlier this year and always make sure I have some in my bag.

Rob, I'll see you at Lilleshall so you can try some if you like.

It's all a matter of taste really (and how much you sweat), but at least grips are cheap enough that you can experiment with a few different ones. I think the most common choices are either Karakal PU Super Grip (if you use replacement grips), or Yonex SuperGrap (if you use overgrips on top of something else).

Personally, I find SuperGrap is already too tacky for my liking. WaveGrap is my favourite, but you can't get it in the UK.

What I do now, is take a replacement grip and cut it into very narrow strips, and stick one of those onto the back of some SuperGrap (or the RKEP equivalent) to make the ridges like on WaveGrap, and then wrap that straight on to the bare wood. And then I go over it with fine sandpaper for a few minutes, just to make it a bit less tacky and give it more of a velvety feel (it still lasts me 3-4 months before I need to replace it).

Thanks all for the suggestions. I'll try the Super Grap to start with as it sounds like a safe choice. It'll certainly be better than what I'm using now!

Hi,

Sorry for using your thread for my own personal gain, Terence (but it does relate). Am I able to put a super grap over the original Yonex grip to give a thicker grip? It may seem like a novice question, but I kind of am.

No worries posting on this thread.

I've been putting the grip over the original Yonex grip (in fact, I'm putting it on over the plastic covering that covers the grip) and have had no problem.

Over the plastic covering? I noticed that someone had done this on an online tutorial. Does doing it this way not cause the overgrip to slip on top?

For me, I'm just lazy and haven't removed it. Having said that, I have not had issues with the overgrip slipping.
