Keeping yourself fit in the off-season

I just wanted to ask you guys a question: How do you keep yourself fit during the off-season? Because, as we have 2 months of summer holidays here, our club doesn't have access to the school we normally practise in. And of course our coach also wants to have some break from his job, so I don't get any practice for 2 months. But because I've been in really good form during the season, I want to do something to maintain this form. I've been planning to do some running and also to do basic muscle exercise like situps and the like. Plus, a few members of our club (including me) have planned to try and get access to another venue where we can play once a week, just to keep the feel for the shuttle.

Any other ideas? What do you do to keep yourself fit?

I go to the gym once a week. Mostly for exercising my legs, on endurance. Nothing else. If there would be some nature left in my area, I would go running outside. But "regions of outstanding beauty" are all gone here, leaves me only the gym.

Cheers, ED

Recently, I 've been wondering the same thing myself.
I mostly solve it by going outside and cycle, however it rains here every other day so that is not a very good option.
Other than that I try to practise some strokes in doors with my racket. Be careful not to hit the ceiling though!

Going to the gym is a very good, yet very expensive, solution.

For the gym, I pay 5€ a session, and I took a card of 10 for the whole year. So that's not too bad. It's a small but well equiped gym. It's either this, or running on the street over here. No woods left. The choice is easily made then.

Looking forward to that article Paul.

All the best, ED

The summer holidays are always the hardest times for me. When it gets way too hot I almost just stop functioning all-together.

I guess that is the upside of having a summer with awful weather. These days it's relatively dry over here so I go cycling like 20-30 km a day. I also do the wrist training exersize each day, it really helps a lot!

Certainly looking forward to your article Paul!

I would suggest Richard Gibneys "Badminton life" The Ultimate badminton Athlete.

I myself have been using this programme the past 3 months. It comes with a lot of stretching, strengthening, cardio, injury prevention and more.

I have seen a good improvement the past while esp the past week a massive jump in my stamina to play explosive singles. I played 2 hours of solid singles against a chinese friend of mines who is very good and I felt great after the 2 hours!! He was tired lol.
