Hi, glad to hear you're enjoying yourself. Smile

I'm only going to talk about feathers here, plastics aren't permitted in any of the leagues I play in, it's been years since I played properly with them.

The most common I see are Yehlex (purple tube), they work out around £1 per shuttle and seem to offer reasonable price v performance. It's all a balancing act really for clubs, you want a decent shuttle at a reasonable price. Any less than £1 a shuttle and they tend to deteriorate too quickly, you end up using more and it becomes a false economy.

The best ones I've used recently were Yonex AS40, really good flight and decent durabilty, you generally can't go wrong with Yonex shuttles. I don't tend to ever have to buy any as I play at clubs that provide them, it's the best way really as you don't have to bother sourcing them yourself and finding a reliable supplier. You can also get much better deals buying in bulk.

OK, readers will know I use Yonex Aerosensa 40's and have done for a few years. I have tested many others and quite frankly I have been very disappointed with most brands I've tried.

I am looking forward to testing new Adidas shuttles when they are available as I hear good things about them. I also like Victor Champion but they need a speed 79 in UK as they tend to be a little slow.

For me I don't mind which feathers clubs use as long as they get the correct speed. But rather than buy on price, clubs should test properly and many have no idea how to do this. But, if they did, they would probably find that they are being misled and effectively paying more per shuttle than they thought.

I went to a club last Monday and they were using Yehlex – but not the top of the range. Speed was OK but the shuttle wasn't. There is a problem or insert in the cork base as the number of times I hit clean and thought I'd broken a string was rediculous. The shuttle also make a strange sound when hitting the floor on a vertical drop. There seemed to be a lot of empty tubes at the club but very few decent shuttles.

Nowadays I keep a tube of speed 3 and speed 4 Yonex Aerosensa shuttles in my bag. I know they're expensive. Whilst I am sponsored by Yonex, I am not given free shuttles and I have to pay the same price as you do. But, with all the testing I've done, Aerosensa 40's are worth it! However, I understand budget issues at clubs and players too and accept that a budget shuttle is sometimes the only option.

Hi Millerman,

For badminton clubs in Scotland go to: http://www.badmintonscotland.o…..ind-a-club and you can search for clubs in your region.

Following on from this topic, with a slight aside, I will be launching my first article for some time over the next day or so.
