With the new badminton season almost upon us, my thoughts have started to think about areas of improvement.
Have you used the off season to work on your game?
The areas I need to work on are my mind – keeping a calm head on when mistakes are made by giving away too many cheap points by my partner & myself, i.e. talking through a game plan not to lift to a certain player as he’s got a really good smash, for them to lift nearly every shuttle, even when saying I’d rather play flatter, downward shots & losing points. Keeping my body relaxed & concentrating on the next point, and finally not letting badminton determine my happiness.

Next up is movement – I’ve done some work during the summer but along way to go. Now need to put in more graft doing shuttle runs.
I’m looking forward to the launch of Paul’s International Badminton Club, watching videos showing correct technique thus helping move your game on.
As well as attending Lillieshall in September, so may be see some of you on court : )

Over to you!

I have a list as long as my arm but practically I am so busy helping others my time for self-improvement is limited.

I know you are keen to improve and no doubt we can discuss mindset a lot more at Lilleshall. i am soon to have a meeting with a sports psychologist which I’m really looking forward to.

The biggest challenge for me is fitness. I need to find time in my diary to exercise more regularly. My diet is so good now and therefore exercise is the one key area which will improve my game.

If I could, I’d been on court for 2 hours every day just practicing…mmm I don’t think that’s going to happen!

Teaching you isn’t difficult at all…it’s getting your body to listen and do as it’s told!

The slow motion recording of your overhead was very revealing and as soon as Stuart sends me the video I will spend some time documenting what to work on. Come on Stuart, hurry up!
