Rob, thanks for the offer, but I think I will take up Paul's offer Smile

This is why I wanted to write down notes as I know it would have helped me remember the things that I am writing down better.

I am still practising my footwork at home, for some reason I am unable to put this into practise on court. But one thing I have noticed is I still need to make sure my landing foot is straight when going forwards. And to be fair, even other people on the course were telling me off for not keeping my foot straight so I know it's a big problem I have! Laugh

But the notes would be great, as for example, I was struggling to get the low return serve to work and without wanting to give away Paul's secerts, I managed to work out that I wasn't doing something quite right. I was doing it, but not enough. Once I made a small adjustment, it all started to click better. I think this proves that some times in your head you think that you are doing something right but need a coach to point out that you need to make small adjustments.

I would like to work on my net shots next, mainly because I am not so good at them but also because Paul has a strong belief that if you can control the net, then you can control the game (correct me if I'm wrong Paul, but I seem to have that line drummed into my brain!).

I look forward to taking myself to the next level, I'm not sure if the other people at my club would agree though……. Wink  Laugh

You are absolutely right. Without a good net game you have to be giving away the biggest tactical area in the game. This means you must be lifting the shuttle and therefore constantly on the defensive. We all know that you cannot win games by defending.

A solid net game will create openings for you to either set up or kill from the net. The intimiation you can create from the net area is immense and this in turn creates nerves in your opponent. A nervous net shot is usually punished.

I have a good idea what you were doing wrong with the return of serve. However, you seem to have worked it out so hopefully it’s not an issue for you.

Feel free to give me a nudge if you don’t get any notes from me in a week. I’m really busy and it’s so easy to forget the simplest of tasks. Either that or I’m just getting old!

I will give you a shout if you still haven’t got round to the notes, although I don’t think it’s due to age!

I think it’s the distractions caused by the little patter of feet! Although I am guessing your son was wondering where all his tennis balls went the other weekend! lol

I would really like to attend another course in the future, but it might be a little while yet. In the meantime, I will train myself and try and do all the things that I was taught. I am really looking forward to the challenge.

Make sure you ask questions to confirm your understanding otherwise you could be learning the wrong thing.
