Well guys, the season starts quite soon. For me the season really starts end of september/ beginning of October. I thought I would love to be super fit this year so I decided to take up the challenge of INSANITY
INSANITY is a do it at home workout DVD with different videos for each day. It is a high intensity cardio based 2 month work out to make you super fit!!
Ive done this a year ago for 6 weeks (8 week programme) and it was awesome with regards to my on court fitness. Ive never been as fit in all my life but I had a badminton break down and stopped everything!!
So Now is the time I am going to start again come sunday. Getting my recovery/protein shake on friday and I start on Sunday. I will use this Post as a blog to show my progress each day.

Not a great fan of Insanity myself…it is the annoying American accent that drives me nuts!! (sorry if any forum members are American…)
Fortunately I work on a military base with fantastic access to sports and training facilities. If I want to get fitter I just had to go to the twice weekly permanent staff PT sessions…or the gym…or the pool etc. The really good thing about it is that getting fit/training/taking part in sport is positively encouraged and the individuals want to do it – makes it so much easier.
Anyone for the Beep Test?

A few decades ago we had a Belgian motorcycle crosser Eric Geboers. In a interview he stated how many hours in the gym he spent for getting his condition top and stay top. That time I couldn't understand why a motorcycle crosser needed this fitness. He was the first in the world to become world champion in all 3 classes (125, 250 and 500cc). Says enough, doesn't it. When Mike Spits was top swimmer, all he did was swim, swim and swim. The diversity of sports athletes do these days to get their fitness in shape is tremendous. I would like to have a look in the day to day schedules of the likes of LCW, LD, …
Cheers, ED

Hope it goes well Phil and looking forward to the blogett.
I have to say that I'm with John on Insanity but not because of the accent. To be fair any video fitness training regime requires a large chunk of self motivation by the participant, so respect Phil if you stay the course and we hope you do.
For us mortals maybe fitness classes are the answer, like to hear any thoughts on this. From personal experience I find spin classes first rate. You get a great cardiovascular workout with no damage to joints (excellent for oldies like me).

Day 1: Fit Test (25 mins) and Plyometric Cardio Circuit (41 mins) – Monday 5th August
I did both the fit test today and Plyometric cardio circuit today so that I can have a rest day on Saturday.
Both the test was hard and I did ok with it although glad to get it done! I immediately went on to do the pylometric cardio and this killed me. I had a stitch in my left side from the start and I burned out near the end when they started doing suicide drills! I forgot how hard this was!
Was very glad to get this completed. Very intense, very hard and will do better next time.
(66 mins of exercise today)

Day 2 – Cardio Power & Resistance (39 mins) – Tuesday 6th August
Did my resting heart rate in bed this morning time to get a true reading – 118/74 (52 bpm)
I also did my peakflow (peakflow meter) and my average was 497 litres/min (too low – should be 650 atleast)
I woke up with tight hanstrings but overall not too bad. I worked out 1st thing this morning time. Was very hard although easier than yesterday because I had less to do. Many times I wanted to stop but I kept going and got it finished
Tonight I will be playing atleast an hour of singles or doubles also so happy days

Good luck Phil with your new program. I hope you find it makes a difference.
What I would point out to you is that the offc ourt workout is good but make sure you consider an on-court workout. Remembering your style, i would suggest you target speed of preparation as you tended to have a slower wind up in your overhead.
I would love the freedom to go on any fitness program however I simply don't have the luxury. I barely have the time to write, never mind go for a regular run. i have stacks of articles and reviews to catch up on and will be making a concerted effort to have them all completed within the next week to clear the decks before my next onslaught of rackets arrive.
