Guys here it is plain and simple.
1) Buy a tube or two or low level shuttles and test them properly. That means test for speed, flight and consistency by hitting from the back line (see my video if you don't know how to test a shuttle). Record how many are good and how many you wouldn't use in a match, but maybe use on a club night. Record how many do not meet the requirements in terms of speed and flight.
2) Use the shuttles in matches and record how many you use.
3) Now look at the data. Did you buy a true dozen or did you find one or two, or more shuttles that did not meet match standards? How did the shuttles hold up in match condsitions. Did you use one shuttle per game or less.
4) Repeat the exercise with every new tube you buy until you have good data from which to make a decision.
My guess is when you do this exercise properly, is that the higher priced shuttles will demonstrate their superior value. And, at the end of the day, don't we all want value for money rather than the cheapest price?

For the last 6 months I have been trying out the following;
Yonex Aerosensas. The 20s, 40s, and 50s.
For the testing, I have had the same group of players ( I play private badminton once a week with the same players) and we are the only ones using these shuttles. I also play club badminton weekly, where my club always use Aerosensas 20.
My verdict to date is that the 20s are too weak, they break too easily when they are exposed to heavy smashing. With the 40s and 50s I love both of these but I am really struggling to see any difference between them. The quality and flight of both 40s and 50s seems identical.. I have 3 tubes of AS 50s now so once they are used up I think I would go back to 40s for good as to me, they seem to represent the best value for money.
Does anyone else share my opinion on the 40s / 50s being very similar and that the 20s are too weak ?
Best wishes.

I cannot comment on the 40-50's. We finished this season playing AS20's in our club, and we never used less shuttles throughout a season as this year. I do have the impression, conserving them is becoming difficult. The latest weeks they tend to break more when exposed to proper smashing. Could be the raised temperature of the summer (huh ?), or they need a few seconds steaming, … Not sure. Perhaps this is the point where 40-50's distinguish from the 20's ? How long can you hold a feather shuttle ?
Anyway, they still are far better than all the other brands (all togheter even).

Hello 🙂
My level of game isn't equal as most of you but I started to use Aerosensa 20 recently. Mostly because they last longer than the Victor shuttles my club is using for interclubs in Belgium.
As a student, I'm very careful about my expenses, especially when it comes to Badminton 😀 but I really don't mind to spend 20 € instead of 16 € for what I consider to be good shuttles.
Unfortunately, I can't find Aerosensa 30-40-50 at my local retailer so can't get a 'taste' of them but I would expect them to be too expensive for my own use and not necessary at my level.

AS most forum members know I use AS40's and have done for many years. I have found them to be extremely consistent, durable and the flight is superb.
Would I upgrade to AS50? No. I don't think I will get that much more out of AS50's to make it worth the additional cost.
AS20's are OK. As usual they have good flight and they are consistent in speed. However, they are not as durable as AS40's so I give them a miss.

I'm starting with a new club this week and the guys don't know much about shuttles as they play with plastics at their other clubs.
I've refused to give any opinions on what we use and told them to try different ones and see what we prefer.
If I were a gambling man I'd put money on us ending up with AS40's

I was speaking to my club accountant last night and he told me that we use on average 10 * AS20s per week on our club night.
That is for 2 courts, booked for 2 hours on each.. (how does that sound to any other club members ? )
I am struggling to persuade him to try the AS40s as the increased cost per tube is fairly high, but I am sure the durability of the 40s would make a good financial saving over a season….
I will keep trying as I do find the 40s a better overall shuttle and they definately last longer when you have heavy hitters in a club.

So far, we've tried Snowpeak, RSL's, Yehlex tourney, Yehlex something, AS30's and Tronex Gold.
RSL's we are used to and are OK, AS30's are a bit better for both flight and durability and Sno/Yehlex are pretty poor.
Have to say I'm really impressed with the Tronex shuttles, outperform everything else so far and quite a bit cheaper.
A few people have said they particularly like how they play at the net.
Anyone else tried them ?

Many thanks for the information on Tronex. I haven't tested these shuttles and not heard anything about them at all.
I do get a little peeved with manufacturers who still try and trade off Yonex. If their goods are of a high quality, why try and virtually copy a good brand name.
I'm going to test these shuttles in August when I have more time.

Some very useful information on shuttlecocks
Our league used to use rsl but as Paul said we found durability went from being excellent to really poor
Our chosen brand is now victor champion gold, brilliant shuttle with excellent durability. We have been using these for 3 season.
Havent had the luxery to try yonex so cant compare against
