Thanks for your work on this thread. Personally, I haven’t steamed a shuttle so I’ll give it a go.
I’ve tested most of the shuttles you mention and found very different results. It just shows that we all have an opinion based on our experiences. In UK, Victor Champion are good but a bit slow. I tested Aeroplane Black recently which have consistently been reviewed highly by others. They were incredibly slow, slower than Victor Champion. None of these would have been deemed legal because of their speeds.
I agree Yonex shuttles are premium priced, which is very frustrating. I still beleive they are the best in terms of flight and consistency. Even now, having played and coached so much with Yonex feathers, I have never had a bad shuttle from a tube. Not even the slightest hint of a wobble on their shuttles. It’s a shame I can’t say the same for many other manufacturers.
Carlton shuttles I tried were exactly the same as Ashway and Head. I cut all my shuttles in half after tested to see what they’re construction is like. I’ve lost count of the number of identical shuttles with different labels.
At least I know what I’m getting with Yonex. time after time I’ve kept records of shuttle usage and they always seem to work out the best in terms of £ per shuttle. If only players did this more often, they would soon see that with some brands they actually get 9/10 good shuttles in a tube and not 12 as they should. Over time, this actually changes the price point per shuttle. i have know a few lesser brands actually work out more expensive than Yonex AS30 on a cost per usable shuttle.

I'd like to add to this post…
I originally steamed my first tube or so, but after that I eventually started using a humidifier. A humidifier doesn't take as long (you don't need to boil the water), doesn't have the 'heat' to it (unless you get those hot ones…) and so, works very well in humidifying the shuttles.
The best part is that you get to control the amount of humidity going into the tube. It's a lot faster and works really well! I'd highly recommend it!
At the moment I'm giving Victor Master No.1's (Blue) a try, don't know if they're any good, any comments on them?

Hi Shou;
Only know Victor Queen, and tey're the biggest crap I ever played with (among others) . Just for your knowledge; our club used to play with RSL, and they were rather good I've been told (was before my time). Then the RSL was no longer allowed for competition and the club switched to AS15. But this season RSL was again on the list, so we tried it again. Sorry to say, but they're a waste of money. They break by even looking at them. Now we steam them, and this makes the flight a bit better, but the lifetime is even shorter than without steaming.
I repeat, I recently played with AS20, man THAT is what I call a shuttle, and I'm not even a pro ! I think the higher cost per shuttle is payed back in durability. Paul has so many years of experience with Yonex shuttles, reading his posts should save you (steaming) time and frustration. Since my AS20 experience, I believe him blindfold. And apparently he uses AS40. I would love to hit one of those…
I advised our club to go for AS20 next season, don't know if my proposal will make it though.
What was used on the Korea SS now entire Korea is sponsored by Victor ? Anybody an idea ?
All the best, ED

Hmmm although I'm not sure, I think the Victor's here are a bit different… I previously had a tube of “Victor Reds” and no matter where I search I cannot find them anywhere online. They are terrible shuttles… but I still find it funny/awkward that there's absolutely nothing on them online!!
The tube I have here with me (Victor Master No.1 [blue in color]) says “Approved for International Tournaments” and also says “Badminton Korea Association”. Not sure if that has anything to do with what you were talking about…
We don't have Victor Queen's here I believe, or at least I haven't seen them around…
