Hi all, been playing now for around a year, and still using the first racket I bought, yonex arcsaber 003. It is strung with Yonex bg55 string. Lately I have felt the racket to be hitting very dull and have had to put a lot more effort in to clear the shuttle to the back of the court. seems I need my first restring.
This is where I hope you guys could give me an idea where to start. Here are the main points to consider:
I play once a week,
Use plastic shuttles,
i'm Better at the net,
would like more repulsion to help with clears and smash.
Racket recommended tension 19 – 24 lbs
Would consider myself social/intermediate standard player.
Any recommendations for strings / string tension based on above info?
Thanks.

It’s always hard to say but I would say try Yonex BG65Ti at 21lbs and see how you get on with that.
Remember that the strings will seem to be tight to start with but may loosen slightly after a few weeks.

Thanks for the peply peter. funny enough BG65 ti was one of the strings I had shorlisted.
would 21lbs be a good tension for use with plastic shuttles? I have no idea what my current racket is strung at as it was my first racket and came factory strung. At least with a restring i will have a starting point to increase or decrease tension from in the future.

I think 21lbs is a good tension, it's hard to say without seeing you play. But it would be a good starting point and it would be something that you would notice (hence why I say 21 lbs, so you can feel if it is too tight for you). I would say that factory strung rackets are more around 18lbs or so.
As many will say on here, it depends on technique and lots of other different variables.
To be fair, it depends on how good your stringer is too. I've heard of stringers being asked to string a racket at say 25lbs but it's more like 20lbs. So finding a good stringer is also near the top of the priority list when it comes to re-stringing.
As this is your first time, I'd just take the plunge and do what you can and then review how it's gone. You learn what's what as you go along, so you won't likely get it perfect on first go.

BG65Ti string is very good and usually performs well for months. To break within 3 games is unusal for this string.
If Wacman had asked me for advice on stringing I would have begun at 19lbs. Playing with plastics and not very often, taking into consideration all that has been said, let's begin by increasing the sweet spot and allowing the string to do more work, especially for power shots.
As Wacman improved, I've got a solid base to increase by 1lb per time to test the next ideal playing tension in his evolution as a player.
Personally i would consider 21lbs on the top side. This is the tension I usually recommend to players switcinh between plastic and feather shuttles. However, everyone is different and what works for one doesn't necessarily work for another.
Also bearing in mind Arcsaber 003 is factory strung so this will be nore more than 18 lbs in BG55. So, 21lbs may be a huge hike in tension.

My experience is that BG55 plays very softly, and loses a lot of tension quickly. I would expect a factory strung racket to start around 18/19 lbs, and fall as low as 16 or 17. As such, 21lbs may be much MUCH more than wacman is used to, especially with a good quality string like BG65ti. However, that may ALSO be a good thing – it may feel better.
BG65ti will not break easily – its a great string, and you need to hit REALLY REALLY hard with that string at 21lbs to break it at all within a few months. I wouldn't worry about it if I were you 🙂

Thanks for all the advice guys. It's been really useful. I've decided to try the BG65ti string. Bearing in mind what Mattew and Paul have said I will try starting at 18 / 19lbs tension. That way I am only changing one variable at a time and can increase tension in the future gradually if I feel I need to.
I'll come back in future to let you know if it helps my game.

It also makes a difference on who and how it is strung.
I had one of my rackets strung with Zymax 62 at a reputable local store at 24lbs. The string felt great but broke in 3 hours. I then restrung it with the same string with one of the club players and it felt different even though the tension was same. Both of them used crank machines,\.
I cut it and went and restrung all 3 of my Victor rackets yesterday with a store that uses 2x ES5 and 1x ES8 professional Yonex machines. Not only did the string job look physically clean, all 3 rackets play totally great now. The string don't budge much and I love how they feel.
