Dear Paul,
Recently I've been using my new racket, the Victor Bravesword 09, and I really love it.
But I'm a little bit concerned about the string used on my racket which is Victor VS-850. I like the combination of that string with my BS09 and in case I need to replace it, I wouldn't be able to find it in Belgium.
So can you advice me on some Yonex strings which may have the same qualities as VS-850 ? (They are easier to find than Victor's)
Moreover, if you had the opportunity to test the BS09, can you share your impressions on it ?
Thank you in advance.
Jonathan

Hi Jonathon,
Just thought I'd chip in here as I can hopefully help.
I too have a Bravesword 09 that I'm a big fan of (well actually I have 5 of them!).
I also string for myself and have tried lots of strings.
The Yonex string that is most similar to VS-850 is definitely BG-80.
(It's also the string the Koreans were predominantly using before they changed sponsorship from Yonex to Victor. They now all use VS-850 so it's effectively Victor's equivalent/alternative to Yonex's BG-80.)
Although it does feel/play slightly harder so you might want to string it a lb or two less than you would VS-850.
I hope that helps.

Thank you for your post, Mat. It really helps.
About VS-850, I’m relieved to hear that its equivalent is Yonex BG-80 as I own a bobin of BG-80 myself. So I can save some money for now
About stringing, in Belgium, we use “kg” to measure the tension instead of “lbs”. That means I can’t do what you advice me (1 or 2 lbs lower than usual). I guess I’ll ask for 9kg and wait for the strings to lose some tension.
Wow, you must be happy with 5 BRS-09
I can’t wait to get myself a second one. The worst part is I’m hesitating to get a third one…arrrghhhh The reason is that apparently BRS-09 will no longer be produced so maybe I should stock up.
Or not… Mat, have you tried the BRS-12 ? It seems to be the evolution of BRS-09 as it has the same specifications.
Thanks in advance for your reply.
Jonathan.

I have also tested VS850 and think it's a very good string. As Mat said, most of the Korean team use this string. It's been tested by a few guys I know and all have said it's good. It does have a tendency to lose tension a little faster, albeit this is a minor point.
Getting hold of BS09's is becoming difficult but if you like the racquet so much it could be a good idea to invest again. I know a UK retailer who recently bought 6 of them to ensure they have a few in stock.
Good luck
Paul
