Hello guys

Hope you all are fine

Recently my voltric 7 has got a little crack in the frame thanks to an idiot. I was going for a quick kill at the net on a relative tight net shot by him when he suddenly brought his racket up and into my side of the court. I ended up killing the shuttle along with the racket causing a crack to appear in my beloved voltric( that guy has a cab21 which is practically indestructible)

This leaves me with a new racket to find and buy. I had bought the voltric because back then i needed the extra head weight as i was really lacking in overhead power. Now i have sorted that issue with a lot of court practice, improvement in technique and a bit of weight training and ofcours pauls exercises and tips(they always help). Since i no longer need the added wseight i can return to a more even balance which i personally prefer. At this point i have two option: the arc 10 and arc 9fl.

I really like both the rackets so its becoming hard to make a decision. My priorities are touch and maneuverability at the net and precise head control.

Though these two are the main contenders at this point i am open to any other suggestions from you guys.

Btw the peter gade colour scheme is killer

Cheers

Amit

You've been playing with a medium flex shaft in Voltric 7 and now list Arc 10 as a contender which has a stiff shaft. Arc9FL is a very nice racquet. It was deemed a ladies racquet which I think was a bad move by Yonex. I reviewed it a while ago.

So, medium flex would also suggest Arcsaber 7 and 5DX.

Peter Gade used to use Arcsaber 10 before changing to Voltric 80 and now Voltric Z Force. There's something about these type of racquets that the singles players like but there again they are not playing doubles and require the speed at close quarters.

The other racquet I recently tested which has received a 5 star rating is Victor Meteor 60. My review for this racquet goes live on 30 April. It has a medium flex shaft, and play beautifully in every area of the game. Rarely do I mention other manufacturers but I do believe in giving credit where it's due. That does not change my loyalty to Yonex but this forum is about giving independent advice based on my knowledge.

Let us know which racquet you finally choose.

Sadly Victor is out of the question altogether in because there are very few retailers/etailers who actually sell these racquets in india and they charge quite a premium( the victor bravesword 10 is 40% more than arc 10 around here). I dont really have concerns with shaft stiffness and am able to adjust quite well to even the z slash(timing issues keep it out of reconing and moreover i like 10 and 9fl more) I mostly play singles and i am not intending to use arc 10/9fl in doubles whatsoever(ill use my old mp29 wich i bought from a frnd second hand but in nice condition).

I havnt yet had the chance to use the 9fl and 10 one after the other(hoping to do so tomorrow)

And thankfully in india we dont gt the excessively bright crystal pink colour scheme but a much more subtle light pink on white (looks quite good actually)

Thanks for your advice

Cheers

The good news is you are looking at two very good racquets. Taufik Hidyat has ditched playing with Z Slash and returned to Arc 10 although he has the new colourway which isn't available yet.

The decison regarding which racquet to choose is solely yours but at least you have a very good starting point. The fact you are adaptable in terms of the flex in the shaft helps which means there are numerous Arcsaber racquets that could suit your game. 009DX is a good stiff racquet too, although personally I'd be very surprised if an Arc 10 ever let you down.

Hello paul

I was unable to come online for a month or so because of some personal problems. In that time i got a chance to have a go at VT-80 and Arc 10 one after the other and i liked the voltric 80 slightly more(guess i am getting used to head-heavy) and since the price difference wasnt much i ended up buying the VT-80. It has been shipped to me but I am yet to play with it so i will update once i have done so..

Thank you so much for your advice

Cheers

After two sessions with the VT-80 i can back up your claim of it being the holy grail of all rackets and finding the sweet spot perfectly. It took me a little time to adjust to it probably but afterwards it was just brilliant. Not only are the smashes hard but the little wrist smashes are an absolute delight and the touch around the net is also fantastic.

Cheers

Isn't it a great feeling when you find a racquet you really play well with?

My congratulations to you – you are now one of the fortunate players who has found a racquet that really matches and enhances their game.

Hi,

I am new on this forum and I will use that topic (usually admins don't like multiple similar themes). I am an intermediate player, I play 3 times (6 hours) per week and currently I am using a Yonex Armortec 50 raquet (bought it 3 years ago after reading Paul's review). I am qute pleased with the raquet, but after last season I thing it is time for a change (it doesn't give me enought power on my smashes). I read many reviews and I am quite interested in Voltric 80. The only problem is, that in my country Yonex official diller doesn't rent raquets (I could rent a Li-Ning, but I prefer Yonex).

Since I am quite an offensive player I would prefer head heavy raquet. My question is, is Voltric 80 maybe an overkill for an intermediate player?

Hi there.

I have been using a Voltric 80 for about 1 year now.. I would call myself an intermediate player and I have fell in love with the racquet.

It has certainly helped me improve my game from my previous Carbonex 6EX racquet.. :–)

It is probably “overkill” because of its price, when a VT5 is much cheaper and guessing offers about 80% of what the VT80 provides… but if you love badminton.. why not “overkill” :–)

It's a good question whether a top of the range racquet is overkill for an intermediate player.

I suppose what it boils down to is this…if you have the money and feel it will benefit your game, then who is to say whether this is the right racquet for you? You can always commence doing my armchair exercises which will make the racquet feel a lot lighter and also help with your power problem.

What I will say is that VT80 is probably 3 times the price of the old Armortec racquet you use. But it will not give you 3 times the power or make you 3 times better as a player.
