Paul

After some months of negotiation I now have the OK  by my local authority to put on beginners  coaching sessions for 11-16 year olds at my local leisure centre.

In the past I have used the centre's rackets, not ideal I admit, but I may be having funding to purchase my own rackets and wondered if you, or any of the forum, have any suggestions.

This is a good question and not as easy to answer.

Each manufacturer has a range for beginners. As you can imagine they are inexpensive, generally heavy but do the job. I think it's worth looking around all of the manufacturers and seeing what they have to offer. It could be some beginners will already have a racket.

This is the time when you get the opportunity to link in with a manufacturer with the view to developing the relationship which could lead to terms being offered to you. This is certainly worth considering.

Good luck

Paul

I've noticed my supplier always presents even balance rackets to beginners. Low price tag, but as long as you have no idea what your preference will be, and what your wrist can handle best, even balance seems like a logic choice to me. But I don't want to push you into any direction, this is just what I have noticed. And indeed, this is the time to build up a good relation ship with a supplier. In the end, there's benefit for both of you (as I have learned). Think shuttles, tournaments, new equipment, clothing, shoes, sponsoring, … you get the picture. Just be aware how for this can go, or how far you want this to go. Just one example that pops into my mind: Sho Sasaki: japanese player, sponsored by Yonex, plays with a Wilson racket. Sure this must have been the subject of a few meetings, right ?

Cheers, ED

From what I can gather, any player representing Japan must wear Yonex clothing, at least in certain tournaments. Their racket deal may be separate.
