Yes, i know of JJS.

It is based on Metoer 70 but said to have new materials too. Not sure what it plays like and whether I will be testing one in January 2013.

I'm sure it will be a good racket and Victor have really produced many fine rackets over the last few years and the Meteor range is very good – see my review of Meteor 60.

I picked up the MX-JJS as a second racquet to compliment my VT-80 and so far have about 5 hours of play with it.

The shaft is stiffer than the Vt-80 and overall the racquet is heavier than the Vt-80 as well and the weight is all in the head.
Mine came pre-strung with black VS-100 Taiwanese string and it felt like it was about 23 or 24lbs based on how my YY feels like at 24.5lbs. I could be off but it’s pretty stiff compared to normal pre-strung racquets.

Talking of Victor rackets, has anyone played with the TK8000 thruster as I need a back up racket. What I would like to know is it a good attacking racket, how responsive is it in defence etc? I know rackets are an individual thing. But I would appreciate people’s thoughts please.

Dobbie

It's too early to tell what the Truster will play like. I will be getting one soon and reviewing. You know where you can borrow one so I would take up the offer and feel it for yourself.

I'm not particularly interested in JJS as I have no idea what's happening with Meteor series in Europe.

Paul, I picked up a 3U Thruster K8000 today. I will try it out tonight.

I'm still in search for the perfect backup racquet for my Vt-80.

So far I have about just under 10 hours of play with my JJS and still getting used to it. I've come to a conclusion that I have lots of hard swinging power but very little explosive power and hence the stiffer shaft is not suited to my game play!

Elisha

At least you are learning what you like and what you don't like – so important.

I'm looking forward to reading your views on Thruster 8000

Thanks Paul. So I spent 2 hours with it last night and have to say I’m impressed with the Thruster.

Just early impressions so I'll list my pros…

  • Every smash went steep (slightly better than Vt-80 and way better than JJS)
  • Drive were fast (faster than JJS and same as Vt-80)
  • Smash defense was good (same as above)
  • Overhead backhand clears was good (JJS is actually better here since it took less effort to clear it deep to the opponents court. Vt-80 is similar to TK8000 here)
  • Placement is good (slightly better than Vt-80 and definitely better than JJS cause it's more manoeuvrable)

I'll add more once I get more play time.  Let's just say I forgot I even had the other 2 racquets with me when I was playing with the Thruster.  Can’t say the same for the JJS cause every time I used it and made an error, I always thought that this wouldn’t happen with the Vt-80 and end up using the Voltric at the very end of the night to try and redeem myself.

The JJS is a very powerful racquet but it's stiffness compared to the Voltric and Thruster does not compliment my game style at the moment. Even though the Thruster is 3/5 on the Victor stiffness scale, it’s shaft is as flexible as the Vt-80 which is considered stiff on the Yonex scale!

Dare I say I like my TK8000 more than my Vt-80?

TK8000 strung with BG66UM @ 23 lbs

Vt-80 strung with BG80P @ 24.5 lbs (bad stringing job….too much movement and my grommets broke on 2 ends that were tied off messily)

JJS strung with VS-100 @ 22-24 lbs based on feel.

Hi Elisha, ta for posting your views re the tk8000 thruster. I’m hoping to demo the racket, even more so after your quick review. Have you played with it anymore?

No unfortunately not. We have had an ice storm on Thursday and today causing all schools to shut down and postponing tournaments to Monday. Next club day is Tuesday and Wednesday. Although I may try to get to the YMCA this weekend with some of my students or visit another club on Monday night!
I’m very impressed with the 2 hours I played with it though! I especially like how 95% of my smashes went steeper than normal. I personally don’t buy into the Catapult technology but I believe it has something to do with where the weight lies in the head!
To me it feels like a perfected version of the Vt-80.
Mind you I’m still in the honeymoon period with this racquet….

I’m half tempted to string my Z-Force 88 Ltd which I bought to frame up to see how it would stack up with the Thruster!

Hope this answers your PM as well Dobbie!
