Hi all

This is my first post and have to say a big thanks to Paul. On hear everyday reading with great interest.

To the problem, I live in a small village called Windermere in the lake district, very nice u might think not when it comes to looking at badminton equipment. I have been playing with a Carlton fireblade tour this season and am wanting to upgrade my racket.

Been reading all the reviews and narrowed it down to voltric 80, voltric 70 and arcsaber 8dx. All alot of money which is why i want to hold one in my hand before I purchase.

I visited yonex website for stockist and there was shops in Lancaster and morecambe great but when I called them they both had been closed for a few years.

If any one could help us with finding a store nearby it would be much appreciated

Many thanks Lee

Hi,

It's a tricky one, finding a good retailer. I live in Liverpool and I have to go all the way to Southport to find a shop. Other than that it's always someone who knows someone and can get you a demo of something.

I use Direct Sports (not to be confused with Sports Direct) as they have a very good returns policy. So if you could pick one racket you think you want you can always just send it back and it'll only cost you the postage. I've done this with clothing and they're brilliant.

Even if you did this three times it would be cheaper than the petrol of having to drive miles.

Good luck with your search!

I have recently switched to the VT80, and I thoroughly recommend giving the racket a try. It is superb. My backup racket is the 8DX, which is also beautiful to play with. Both have exceptional control in my opinion, the Voltric gives me a little more power and control, bearing in mind getting more control than with the 8DX is ASTOUNDING in my opinion, the 8DX feels a tiny bit quicker in defence. Not much though – and its because its more even in balance, and slightly more manouvreable as a result. They are both very stiff rackets it should be noted, which is what I like 🙂

I am confident that trying out those rackets, you will probably find one you like. As Rob says, if somewhere has a good returns policy, then that is brilliant 🙂

Saying that however, the fireblade tour is a very nice racket, which I have used my self a LOT. I feel the Yonex rackets give me a little more power and control however.

Happy hunting 🙂

Matt

Thanks for the quick reply guys
That’s exactly one I’m after mat a bit more power and controll. which strings would u recommend using, my Carlton is strung with bg 65ti at 22lbs at the mo. I only manage to play about 4 hours a week though so could try something a little less durable that will give me more repulsion.

Thanks for the website rob, it has everything u could want. In Manchester in two weeks so if can’t find one there will order offline.

And rich don’t think I can wait till start of season I’m like a kid at Christmas and want one now lol

Hi Lee, the other site to try is Central Sports & if a member of badminton England you get a 10% discount had great service from direct sports as well.

The last season I used the Voltric 70 a great racket ( now my spare), till I played with the Voltric 80, In an early post I quoted it as a killing machine with an excellent touch.

If you do get to try before buy try the VOltric 80.

hope this helps

Guys

You do have another option.

If you live around Manchester/Liverpool or going to be in the area for a while, you can always arrange a demo session with me. If you book it 2 weeks forward, then you can give me a list of Yonex racquets and I’ll probably get most of them. This way you can test one racquet against another in quick succession and this gives you even more information to help you choose.

You’ll need to book a court for an hour. Who knows, if you get through the demo session fast enough, then you get the added benefit of one-on-one coaching with me for the rest of the time for free.

There isn’t a catch with this session. However, you are asked to order through my retailer if you like the racquet. After all, they have paid for the demo racquets and I would have driven 1.5 hours round trip to get the racquets. Is that fair enough?

Paul
