Played a few hours yesterday and tried a friends nanospeed 9000 type x to compare with my carbonex 20. Couldn’t really get on with it, although it was supposed to be lightier, it kinda felt uncomfortable to me. Found out the shaft is extra stiff so it could be that as I’d need to have a faster swing speed for it wouldn’t I? My carbonex 20 is a stiff shaft I believe and I’d stick with that or maybe a medium which will give my smashes some help?
I’ll see if I can borrow some others next week to try……:)

Hey Coach,

Well firstly thanks for providing such a nice platform.

Now to my query. I am from India. Actually my brother is a very good badminton player & he'’s gonna play in a national level competition earlier next year. I want to give him a good Yonex racket. I’d like it to be a budget racket  as my finances are on a lower side. Frown  I’ve asked him his playing style. He likes to play aggressive game with lots of smashes from back-court. He doesn'’t like net play that much.  Currently he plays with a Nanospeed 300 (which after reading about badminton rackets I feel doesn't much fit his style). He has a light build with 6ft height. Being a rookie myself & after collecting some information I’'ve zeroed in on Yonex Voltric 7. Can you please give me your opinion about the same? I read your review about the voltric 7 & I think the racket will suit him.

I know that it’s about personal experience but till now he has been fairly ignorant about choosing rackets & had gone with friend's’ recommendations without getting into his playing style. He's ready to adjust to a new racket given it is fit for his playing style.

Do you have any other suggestion about other rackets considering his playing style & in line with the price of voltric 7?

With regards.

Thank you. Smile

Please read my articel on choosing a racket because there is a method of thinking your brother needs to adopt in order to get closer to the answer to whether he needs a new racket and if so, what should it be.

Personally, i do not believe a playing style dictates a certain style of racket, although could easily subscribe to some players thoughts that a defensive player should use light headed rackets. This is a massive generality and pretty false.

Firstly this style of player cannot win if playing against a similar level opponent. The modern game is built on attack, not defence. And therefore, the player needs to adapt their game. For me this means considering getting more of something else without sacrificing too much in their defensive capabilities.

But, at the end of the day, personal preference will always prevail.

Tried a few more racquets from my friends yesterday including other brands like Forza but the one that stood out for me was the Yonex Voltric 70……this could be the one!

Wanted to try a Z-force but my mate had to get it restrung and also a Voltric 80, to see what difference it is to the 70…..what could i expect?

Paul, can you tell me what flex the Arcsaber 10 is because in the brochure Yonex sent me, it says its stiff but on their official website, it says medium.

Also will you be testing the new Arcsaber i-slash soon?

Thanks

VT80 is stiffer and more head heavy compared to VT70.

Arc 10 should be stiff shaft.

I tested Arcsaber islash tonight. I have one more test and then I'll review it. Expect the review to go line next week.

Paul,

are all the new reviews coming at once or have I missed the VT9 report?

Sam

I got a batch of rackets delivered recently. i tested VT9 last week but still have to write my review. However Arcsaber i-slash is brand new to the market so I want to complete that first.

Then I have Nanoray 800, 600, 500 and one or two surprises.

I have a arcsaber5dx but find it a bit too flexible. Any suggestions of rackets with a similar 85g weight but a bit less flex and perhaps a little extra head weight. looked at voltric 9 but reviews are not great, could consider voltric 70 if it is a bit stiffer than arcsaber5dx.
Anyone tried the i slash yet?
Is the 8dx hard to create power?

cheers

I agree that Voltric9 isn't very good – too much vibration for me.

I have also tested i-slash and will be posting my review within the next day or so. That didn't impress me either.
