Hi. I am an intermediate level player and am new to changing strings. Previously I used BG66um but the last time I had it strung on my VT80 24lbs, it broke in about a week and I don’t have the budget for changing strings every week. I am looking for a more durable but still powerful string which could alao give me great control. I am a smasher but I am also fond of throwing in drops. I am also a singles player which means that great placement of the shuttlecock is essential.

I am not actually sure about the difference of strings because I have just joined the badminton club at our high school and I have only used BG66um until now. I am joining a tournament the week after the next and I am worried that my performance and play would change because of a new string. I have about a week and a half before the tournament for getting used to the new string.

Thank you very much in advance

Hi, the strings shouldn't break within that short amount of time. Did you mis-hit the shuttle when they snapped or did you have a few mis-hits on that night? Did you clash rackets at all?

If the answer is no for all the above, I recommend going back to the stringer and asking for a re-string (free of charge). Strings don't break THAT fast.

In terms of the tournament, your better off sticking to what you know at the moment, in my opinion. Start changing things and you will use that to blame if you were to lose or what not.

Sounds like dodgy strings/stringer or off centre hits. A string like BG66UM is very thin, and will not take kindly to mishits. I use BG66UM closer to 30lbs, and my strings normally last around a month. I play 4 times a week… So im surprised if they broke that quickly! Of course, sometimes you get unlucky! Since I string the rackets myself, I tend not to worry about restringing them either.

I am not sure if it broke when I was playing. I just checked on it and saw that it broke. I know that I didn’t mishit it but I’m not sure. Thanks for the advice. I am going to restring with BG66um like before.

But, I would also like to change strings afterwards because I don’t know how strings could affect my game. So, I would like to ask which is better? Nanogy 99 or BG80 Power?

I use BG80 Power and like it, it lasts really well too. I play 2-3 times a week in the season and it lasts a couple of months @ 23lbs.

I personally think tension is more important than the string. Most people I string for couldn't care less about what string I put in their rackets as long as the tension is correct.

Most durable string I've come across is BG65 Ti, its bad for business as the rackets never come back!! Cool

There is no such thing as the best string, best grip, best racket. Each element is a personal choice based on trial and error. If you wish to find the string that suits you best then you need to test.

What i would recommend is to test different strings at your current preferred tension. Then, once you find the string which feels best for you then test tension.

I currently use BG80 Power or BG66 Ultimax although have the luxury I can restring when I like. Over the next month or so I will begin testing Victor strings. I'm hoping to find something I like and am also going to test creating a hybrid. So I may have some strange combinations for a while (although not at Lileshall, where i'll have white VS850).

I also string myself and during my tour around Asia I have picked up a lot of string and just bg66um there lots if colour unlike in uk only white and yellow and red in you buy it in 200m reel which is rather pointless unless you are a stringer. About a year ago I used lots of different strings like yonex lining victor and etc and I often snap string during matches and changing to a same racket but the feel is really different so I decide to stick with one string recently bg66um is a really good string tough is abit soft feeling but I like crispness feeling it gives and I string it at 26 pounds or higher. And during normal play or training I don’t seem to break the string often at all just sometimes miss hit due to pressure to try kill the shuttle in a game. Is a really trust worthy string so you should stick with it but you could pick another string but main thing is dnt switch around.
