As mentioned above, choosing a grip is as personal as choosing a racket.
Towelling grip is very popular amongst the pros but they are playing under hot lights in addition to the different venues which can humid.
All players who use towelling grip tend to use grip powder. This is different to baby powder so do not think you can substitute here. Grip powder is resin based which therefore makes the grip more tacky.
As Matt said, you will need to change your grips frequently so it's best to use a good brand over the cheap stuff and hopefully you can purchase the grip on a reel rather than single pack. This way you may get an extra grip or two out of the reel.
