Hi all, I thought I'd post this, especially after all these posts about rackets, it's getting boring now, use Paul's guide!

Anyhoo, I thought I'd ask this question as it's come up twice now.

Someone had just joined our club and was moaning that our nets are too “straight”. The nets MUST have a slight dip in them. Can anyone confirm that this is TRUE or FALSE?

It's the first time I've ever heard of such a thing and everyone at my club, and I would still find it hard to believe if you told me that it was true.

But I played a match the other night and I stopped the game just before the first serve and straightened the net as it had a HUGE dip in it. However, the bloke I was playing against said that it was supposed to have a dip in it. In the end I said, “fine, you put the dip in it then” and he did, but it was ever so slight, and probably not as much as he would like but he knew I didn't think this rule existed.

I only ask this question as it's about badminton and not badminton equipment and I don't have the time to scan through the thick IBF book and find said rule (if it exists). I'm really interested in what is right and wrong but also what people think about it.

So, over to you Cool

Don't have time to scan through the rulebook? It's on page 1 XD

1.10 The top of the net from the surface of the court shall be 1.524 metres (5'0″) at the centre of the court and 1.55 metres (5'1″) over the side lines for doubles.

Thanks for that!

I had a gut feeling that I would be proved wrong! Yell

I don't see why there would be a slight dip, where ever I have played the net's have been dead straight, and they always seem dead straight when I have watched badminton as well!

An inch is quite a bit of a dip isn't it, surely it would be more noticeable Confused

Peter

If the net didn't have a dip in it, imagine how tight it would have to be. Most sports halls would not have the correct badminton posts to withstand that kind of tension. Imagine also setting out courts and having to lug the heavy weights for the posts.
