Ive been on Pauls weekends 2 or 3 times now and all have been very good so I have a few suggestions for people who are going.

1. Bring a pen and pad to have off court so that at each small break between training, you can write down the stuff that applies to you specifically. Any small changes you need to do. There is so much you will learn, its hard to remember all of it so if you want to make the most of it, write it down there and then will save so much hassle.

2. Take the friday off training of any kind. It is a lot of coaching and I can tell you after the 1st day, ul be tired so carb build couple days before hand, eat lot of pasta, rice, pizza, anything really for energy.

3. Think now about anything in your game you really struggle with cause this is the course to find the fix for it. No matter how small, there is plenty of oppourtunity to ask the coaches during practice and even at breaks for advice and they are very more than willing as I found out on numerous occasions 🙂

4. Dont stay up to late on the fri or sat nit. Get a good nights sleep as ul need it to keep you going good for the weekend.

5. Enjoy the whole experience. I myself enjoy training but of course prefer to play a lot more but jus remember what this is for. To improve your game. This is the stepping stone to teach you how to do whatever it is, right. Its up to you after the course to keep practicing the techniques you find hard, til you find it easy 🙂

Thanks Phil, pen and paper is a great idea, wouldn't have thought of that until it was too late!

Phil

Many thanks for your post – very kind.

Yes, we do cover a lot and this weekend I intend to cover even more. I’m testing leaving out the compeitions and introducing more conditioned games plus a new element based on your discussions with your partner.

Looking forward to seeing you on court Rob.

I would have to agree with everything that Phil has said. Every point is a good point and I would recommend following them all. I would have liked to have followed them all myself but seeing as I was ill before the course, I was lucky enough to go let alone eat loads beforehand. And the weekend that my course was on, was when the clocks went forward so lost quite a bit of sleep through that!

The other thing was taking notes as I have none. I was going to (and planned to do this beforehand), was write some notes on the Saturday night. But my mind went blank and I was very tired so never did write anything down dispite sitting in my room with pen and paper in my hand.

One of the other things I would possibly add to Phil’s list is that I would probably avoid playing any games in the spare time. Looking back, I think if I had resisted the urge to play some games, I could have saved my energy and thoughts on the coaching and training. After all, that’s what I was there for.

I would love the opportunity to go 2 or 3 times but this will probably be unlikely but I do feel lucky enough to have gone once as there is no coaching course like Paul’s coaching course.

If I do every go again, one thing I will definitely do is buy Paul a pint (and Angie!). They both deserve it and both plough their all into it.

Enough said.

(Would also like to take this opportunity to thank the many other coaches on this course, you all play your part, if I had enough money I’d buy you a pint too! You know who you are)
