My pet hate is playing matches in 1-court village halls. I've played against beamed ceilings, low hanging lights along tramlines, slippery floors, freezing conditions and limited rear court space. Fortunately not all at the same venue!

love this post

I live in windermere so play in the westmorland league, meaning we have to travel to a lot of rural places playing in village halls, one of the hardest ones to play at was grange over sands where the back line was an inch from the stage and on the other side there was a balcony overhanging the court, quite a good home advantage, and when we used to play old scoring system we could be there till 1 am. Madness!!

Another bad one was a hall with four courts. the badminton posts slotted into a hole in the ground between the courts. I was so used to using the posts at our hall for a reference point i was forever hitting it out, very fustrating

Luckily our team plays at a school so have a four court hall to play at but it can be a disadvantage when going to these small hall's

I know one: brand new hall (couple of years). 12 courts, excellent floor (however on some parts a lot of lines for other sports), rather poor lighting, plenty of space between the courts, high ceiling. So what's the problem ? The indoor is painted entirely white. And I mean … white ! Try to follow a white shuttle through the air, it's on your part of the court before you even see it, especially playing on courts close to the walls. The local club complained to the city council, but they don't want to repaint the hall. What a bummer, the council could have consult the national body to know the do's and don'ts for all of the sports the hall offers, before construction.
I know a few more where the city council doesn't consult anybody on beforehand. They just check what sports the hall needs to offer, order the construction, and then afterwards…, you know.

Cheers, ED
