Hi all,
I’m Iain, a regular 2-4 times a week player, playing regularly in the middle reaches of both the Stockport and Tameside Leagues, with the odd trophy from local tournaments to show for it.
Now in my first year as an over 40 “veteran” (I hate that word. I much prefer to think of myself as a good “vintage” instead), been playing since my dad started dragging me along to clubs when I was a lad. Only had the minimum of coaching and finding some of the tips on Paul’s site useful.
Hope to spend more time around this forum
Iain

Hi Iain
Welcome!
You’re not too far from me. I don’t know these leagues very well. Which scoring system are you playing to?
I’m sure there will be plenty for you on this forum and my blog and I’m glad to have you around.
The good thing about being relatively local is that we stand a better chance of meeting too!
Again, if there are any burning issues you have, then please make sure you let me know. It could be a problem against a particular type of player, a shot breaking down – just let me know.

In both leagues we are still using the old scoring system and I don’t believe that the powers that be have the will to change.
Personally, as I play mainly for recreation and enjoy a long, tough game, I prefer the old system but with youngsters being brought up playing point-per-rally scoring I actually hope that change isn’t too far away to prevent confusion.
