Hi, I am keat from Hampshire. I have been playing badminton since 12, I am 38 now. Originally I am from Malaysia where badminton is a crazy sport. I am only playing socially now due to my weigh problem, and no stamina.
However my son chris is an enthusiastic badminton player. He is 12 and trains once a week. Chris started badminton 2 years ago. Since early this year he wants to play competitively, therefore he participated in a tournament. He lost badly to 2 players of his average. His trainer always said he has good potential, he normally beat his mates during training. Since this lost he is very determine to train hard. I decided to train him myself because he could only train once a week with the club.
The thing is when I watch him compete he doesn’t have the mental strength to perform, and his play is very predictable. Any guidance to improve this?
Also I decided to put chris in more tournaments around UK from Sept this year. Please provide some guidance how to train a 12yr old to be good in badminton. I am not a qualified trainer. Thanks.

Hello Keat
Welcome to the forum.
There are lots of ways in which you can train your son in the areas you enquire about. It may be worth beginning another topic rather than confuse everyone by responding in this one. So please feel free to post again and let's see how many players give you their thoughts. Of course, I have a lot of ideas for you but would add that at your sons age, focussing on skill is very important. Please ensure all of the basics are consistent because moving too quickly in skill development without sound basics is a recipe for disaster.
