When I was in Paris at the WC, be it TH, FHF or TBH, man you don't want one of their smashes on your body, I can assure you that. But Jonathan is right, TBH's world record was outside competition. TH and FHF was on a tournament. TH's performance is a much viewed video on youtube. Watch it, and put on the sound ! There's also a video on the tube where Lee Young Dae smashes a watermelon with a shuttle. Watch it, put the sound to 11 !
I watch a bunch of other players too, but only gave my top 5 players. Some not that highly ranked players are fun watching because of their fighting spirit: like Nguyen Tien Minh, Sho Sasaki, and others. All the (single and mx) Danes I like watching, and a few MD Danes. The British Rajiv Ouseph play's so smooth, he almost glides over the court. The Dutch Dicky Palyama is fun watching too. But also hero's like Hendrawan (boy was he some tough opponent), Rasmussen, Jonassen, and so on. Too much to cover here, and I want to leave room for the rest to reply.
@[dw]: to my knowledge, TH never won a SuperSeries event (a pitty though). But you're right, no doubt he'll have a barn somewhere stacked with his trofees.

Cheers ED

Taufik has never won a super series title.. which is astounding. However, we won some BEFORE they were called super series titles! I have been told that TBH HAS broken the world record recently with a smash of about 340 kpm (which is just above FHF at 332). You are correct though that the previous one recorded at 400 + was a false environment. However, i have a feeling it has actually been broken recently! I will try and find proof!

My army-

-Lin Dan.

Of course he's got excellent power and agility, and all of the physical characteristics of a great badminton player.  The thing that sets him apart for me is that every game I've watched him play, injured or not, he 'knew' he would win that game.  Hop on youtube and watch him playing LCW.  As great a shuttler as LCW is, I can see in his eyes that he is unsure when they play each other.

-The King

A true badminton gentleman, Cool as a cucumber, and a vert like a kangaroo.  (Thanks for contributing the jumpsmash btw)

-LCW

For his fitness and determination to be #1

Actually I'll add a couple women to my 'Army' so it's not a complete sausage party.  LOL

-Wang Yihan for here overall skill and tirelessness.  And a nasty cut cross drop.

-Pi Hongyan  for her ability to float across the court.

Excellent choices. I laughed when I saw “Thanks for contributing the jumpsmash btw”! Ra Kyung Min JUST lost out of being in my army, she is perhaps the ONLY player who has made the net COMPLETELY unavailable in a mixed doubles match. Check her out in the 2003 World Championship final with her partner Kim Dong Moon (a man who I greatly respect).

My army:

First: Peter Gade, because I like his playingstyle and because his performance at his age.

Second: Lee Chong Wei, because of his fitnesslevel and his number 1 status.

Third: Kenichi Tago, because of his performance at the All England.

Fourth: Lars Paaske, because of his short serve and midcourt play.

and last: Viktor Axelsen, because he's only 16 and plays extremely well.

An excellent Army! What I like particularly by choosing kenichi tago, is that you have chosen someone who plays singles almost like a doubles player – relentless jump smashes! Thus, when you look at his skillset, you will be able to take his skills and apply it to doubles, not just singles.

I don't know the last name – is he a local player to you? And if he is, then I consider that an extremely good choice, because you can relate to him! And someone so young must have plenty of potential 🙂

No,

It's a young Danish player. He won recently the SOTX Cypres International and played against Jan Jorgensen in the Denmark Super Series.

I see! I will look out for him! At that age, we should be expecting great things to come! An interesting choice to have someone in your army who is perhaps not as experienced as the other players.

Some very interesting choices.

I hope young Viktor becomes the next Gade.

I hope it also.

He does have a bad attitude. He is often angry after a point. I hope he works on that.
