searching for a new racquet (HH, U4 - I think)

Hi!

I'm playing for about two years, I was playing mainly with Voltric 5 (it broke few weeks ago), now I'm searching for a replacement.

I was attending for lessons (1.5-2h per week with coaches (former national players)) and a small local league (2h per week).

One year ago I started playing with balanced (maybe even head-light?) racquet, I liked it at start, I was very fast near net, but after a one month i realised my smashes were not so deadly :/

(I think there was an article at this site with exactly the same observations: /4520/what-do-you-think-about-when-choosing-a-new-badminton-racquet/)

I tried a few racquets for last month, for example: victor light fighter 7400 from my friend, it was very light and nimble but still HH and I was able to smash as I like. However I think it's a little too light and too expensive (very) 🙂

That few tests give me some thoughts about my likings, Friends say my style is aggressive and fast (and I dont play doubles)

I read Victor Thruster K6000 review (https://badminton-coach.co.uk/5…..et-review/), it looks like racquet for me 🙂  but still, way too much expensive.

So now I think I need racquet something like head-heavy, a little lighter than VT5, I don't know anything about stiffness, so I think medium will be fine.

It looks like Voltric 7 could be a good choice, HH and a little lighter than VT5  (VT7 is U4 vs  VT5 U3).

What do you think about that? Any other racquets?

I will have some access to used racquets from national players (thru my coach), they're using Babolat equipment.

Hi Razor,

I think you are doing the right thing by trying out rackets used by others; hopefully you will find one that suits you at the price you want to pay. The VT7 is around £50 to £60 – so not sure if that is in your budget. I have not used one so either get hold of one from a friend or see if anyone on here has used one. Also consider the difference a new set of strings at a different tension make – could be that one of your candidate rackets fitted with good strings/tension is the tool for you!

Welcome to the forum and I hope you find what you are looking for.

Regards

John

I always advocate trying as many rackets as possible. Even a 1 minute hit is better than nothing. Sometimes it's all you need to rule a racket out and cross off your list.

I love running demo sessions and watching players faces as they try each new racket. It takes around 20 minutes to whittle the numbers down to two or three. After that it's a bit tougher but putting a player through their paces really helps them decide.

I'm trying to test, but not everyone wants to give me racquet for 10 minutes (they want to play too 🙂 )

so I'm just using information (how some racquets perfomed) to define my likings.

Last week I played borrowed Yonex Isometric Delta 4 and it was one of the best sessions I had 🙂 (however I think that mental attitude is the most important)

I'm searching for a racquet in VT5 – VT7 budget.

Hi Razor,

Just like you, I played with VT5 for 2 years. I then thought of upgrading my racquet. I was looking for something lighter in weight and similar head heaviness. In my place there are only Li Ning and Yonex racquets.

Since I was familiar with Yonex, I didn't search for Li Ning. In Yonex, if you want something lighter than VT5 and want to maintain the head heaviness, I think you have limited options.

Let me try to explain why (my personal view):

For Yonex case:

a) it has to be Voltric Series (Armotec is being replaced by Voltric).

b) In Voltric series  VT3, VT7, VT60, VT70 are all head light than VT5. VT60 and VT70  might exceed your budget. That probably leaves you with even more expensive choices: either VT80 probably a 4U (if you can get it) or a VT-ZF if you can handle it. Both of them will for sure exceed your budget.

Is there any specific reason you want to shift from VT5? Why not buy a VT5 and then try experimenting with string thickness and string tension?

I recently bought VT80 4U and have done a session with it. You can check out the thread if you like.

That's my take. I think you are lucky you have so much choices in brand available. I hope it helps you.

Warm Regards,

Nepali.

But VT7 is just a little lighter ? It’s still head heavy ?
That’s why I’m thinking about it,
A little lighter for speed near net,
And still HH for smashes.
I started to think that way after playing with victor 7400

I was playing on restringed (more tight) VT5 by my coach (but I don’t know any details)

After reading TK6000 review https://badminton-coach.co.uk/5…..et-review/
I believe that light HH racquet can perform well.

Paul,
is VT7 somehow similar to TK6000 ? (And I know that Victor is 2-3 times more expensive 😉 )

Today Iw playing VT5 again and it’s definitely not a racquet for me, too slow, I felt I was swinging a hammer (slow and not too precise)

Then I played a few rounds with RSL Diamond X3 gold.
Racquet felt lighter (confirmed by 3 persons), however specs says it weights similar too VT5 – strange.
This racquet was much more appropriate to my style, Head heavy but nimble and agile.

Is it something wrong with VT5 maybe? 😉

As it has been mentioned a few times in different threads, but sometimes the specs don’t add up and you just go for what FEELS right.

Hence why Paul is keen that people try rackets rather than just over analyse the specs.

Sounds like you are getting nearer to finding the right racket for you, good luck

Razor

TK6000 is very different to VT7. It's got a heavier feel although the 4U compensates for that. It's also more aerodynamic so it's quicker in the swing.

today I was on a training with national player, I tested and played (15-20 minutes) with his Babolat X-Feel Blast.
Strange, racquet is a little heavier than VT5, however it feels faster and more agile.
Maybe it's something with stiffness ?

TK6000 is out of my range, i'm not taking badminton so seriously now 🙂
