Badminton Doubles Training – League Improver

UK One Day Courses

New for 2026, I am delighted to introduce a brand-new one day badminton course the “Badminton Doubles League Improver“. This course has been designed to sharpen your tactical thinking, court craft, and positional and partnership play so you can compete at a higher level.

Suitable for individuals, although it may be beneficial to attend as a doubles pair if you would like to learn together.

Who Is This Badminton Course For?

Paul Stewart - Badminton Coach
  • League players who are frustrated in their club environment and want to upgrade their skills and knowledge to compete at a higher level.

  • League players who wish to maintain their place on a team and recognise that it is time to take action to improve their technical, tactical and positional skills.

  • Social doubles players who are well beyond beginner level and wish to join a league club, but are struggling with their doubles knowledge.

PLEASE NOTE: This course is NOT for everyone

  • This is NOT a beginners course or suitable for players who do not understand basic doubles positioning and tactics.
  • The course is NOT aimed at Division 1 players or above.
  • This is NOT a basic hitting skills course. Basic overhead hitting, footwork etc. will not be covered.
Please see the Badminton Doctor course if you wish to develop those skills.

What Will The Course Cover?

This one-day badminton doubles training course will take a high-intensity approach, combining drills with demonstration sessions and group discussion, plus lower-energy activities to allow learning to consolidate.

There will also be short games, which may or may not be conditioned, in order for all players to practise what they have been learning in a real game context.

It will cover:

Front Court Skills

  • Tactical serving: analysing your opponent to determine where to serve in order to reduce their options and receive a weaker return.

  • What happens after the serve: The role of the net player, what shots they are responsible for, and how to look for a more attacking third shot.

  • Variations in return of serve: to maintain attack and the positioning that follows.

  • Net shots: pushes and net knock-offs to dominate the net, plus recovery to maintain attack.

Mid Court Skills

  • Why the mid court is important and how to control shots played into your zone to maintain attack or neutralise an attack.

  • Defence: using tactical golden rules for solid defence and improving both control and tactical application.

  • Interesting drive and topspin scenarios to force your opponents to lift the shuttle and give away attack.

Rear Court Skills

  • Improve your positioning and movement to maintain the attack.

  • Attack shots and their tactical application

  • Using variation of pace and line to reduce predictability, potentially force a mishit or control where the shuttle may be returned to.

Doubles Rotation

  • Consideration of the rules of rotation.

  • How to rotate.

  • When to rotate, including tactical considerations

  • Where rotations take place on court.
