During one of my recent badminton coaching sessions, working on serve and return tactics, my student asked the question: ‘When I serve, I am struggling to reach the reply played into the tramlines and I don’t understand why – what can I do to resolve this?’.
After investigating further by asking a few questions and watching her serve a few shuttles I identified the problem, which all starts with the need to improve your awareness of where the shuttle is served to.
I come across so many occasions when a player is unaware exactly where they are placing the shuttle and then wonder why they struggle to reach the resulting reply.
